Frank Reich, Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz walk into an Indianapolis bar… sounds like a bad joke, right? Well, replace bar with football field and you have yourself a story.
The three former Philadelphia Eagles were seen chatting it up at the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp yesterday morning. Now they could have been talking about anything. Maybe they were talking about Carson and his wife set to have baby #2, Doug’s vacation plans, the weather… but the Philly in me thinks they were taking jabs at Howie Roseman.
Last year was… well, really bad
…And that’s fine. We can all agree that last year’s circus of a season could have been handled differently by the Eagles front office, but at the end of the day, Wentz struggled big time. According to ESPN, Carson ranked 28 out of 33 in Total QBR with a ranking of 49.6. To put things into perspective, Mitchell Trubisky (21), Jared Goff (23) and Gardner Minshew (27) all ranked higher than Wentz in 2020. Sorry Wentz fans, he absolutely needed to be benched.
Despite the abysmal season, Wentz did manage to outperform Nick Foles (32) last year. You know, our Superbowl MVP winning, Tom Brady slaying, statue having Nick Foles. Speaking of Nick, just last week there were rumors of him joining the Colts with Wentz undergoing foot surgery.
Isn’t it ironic?
Isn’t it ironic? Wentz basically begged to be traded during the off-season to get a fresh start, to get away from Howie, Doug and the stigma of the 2017 Superbowl run, and then just when he was able to breath again, he gets injured. So, Wentz has surgery and is given an estimated recovery time of 5 to 12 weeks. Then fresh out of surgery, the Nick Foles rumors begin popping up.
No rest for the weary
With Nick breathing down his neck, Wentz shocks the world and shows up to training camp way ahead of schedule with the possibility of starting in Week 1. Isn’t amazing what a little motivation can do? Now with Foles apparently out of the picture, here comes Doug.
Frank and Doug are bros
We all know Frank and Doug are close. The two solidified a bond during the Eagles’ Superbowl run, but what’s the relationship between Doug and Carson like? Whether it was his decision or Howie’s, Pederson benched his franchise QB, a move that surely didn’t sit right with Wentz. But that was like 6 months ago. Maybe the two have reconciled, or maybe there was never any beef to begin with. The Philly media tends to blow things out of proportion on the regular.

Fast forward to yesterday. Reich, Pederson and Wentz seem to be having a pleasant conversation in Indianapolis, but about what? We’ll probably never know. Both Frank and Doug are smiling, that’s obvious. But what about Carson? Personally, I think he’s cursing under his mask. What do you guys think they’re talking about?
