LumiNature Lights Up The Philly Zoo

LumiNature at the Philadelphia Zoo

LumiNature first debuted at the Philadelphia Zoo back in 2019. Since then, it’s gotten bigger and brighter each and every year. So, this year, I decided to take the family to see what all the hype was all about and it delivered! LumiNature lights up the Philly Zoo and, lucky for you, I’ve documented the whole experience.

LumiNature shimmers again!

A fantastical light experience, LumiNature is set to transform the Zoo into a dazzling winter wonderland. Featuring 14 illuminated zones, LumiNature takes guests on a magical journey of lights, sounds, and surprises, offering lively displays and newly enhanced installations designed to inspire and delight guests this holiday season.

In 2021, LumiNature doubled the amount of lights in it’s display, using approximately 600,000 light bulbs to transform the zoo. The event features 14 illuminated zones, each with its own theme. It took me and my family about an hour to check out all of the exhibits. So… long enough to justify the price, but short enough to see everything before your kids get cranky.

Even the performers glow

In addition to all of the lights, the zoo did a great job of sprinkling in performers between exhibits. We saw an illuminated peacock, a sparkling flamingo, a moth-like creature, and a lion who may or may not have been on a smoke break.

There are cookies and hot chocolate to keep you warm

When we went to LumiNature, it was pretty cold outside. Fortunately, there were hot chocolate stations sprinkled throughout the zoo. I also saw cookies and smelled funnel cake being fried up. Savory options were also available. There were food trucks cooking up a variety of gourmet options as well as your typical zoo-food like burgers, nuggets and fries. The zoo also did a great job of setting up designated eating areas surrounded by heat lamps.

The exhibits are breathtaking

LumiNature lights up the Philly Zoo and I tried my best to document the whole experience. Honestly, it’s tough holding a cell phone and chasing after a toddler, but below are some photos I managed to take.

Pictures don’t do LumiNature justice

If you have the time, I recommend you see LumiNature in person. Even the latest iPhone on night mode can’t capture the exhibits in all their glory. Tickets are now available, $25 for adults (ages 12+) and $20 for children (ages 2-11). Zoo members receive additional discounts plus free parking. From Boo at the Zoo to LumiNature, the Philadelphia Zoo continues to offer some great special events throughout the year. So, why wait? LumiNature lights up the Philly Zoo. Go see the spectacle before PECO shuts it down!
