Have you seen him? Over the past year, people have spotted Adam Sandler in Philly, Atlantic City and everywhere in between. The comedian/filmmaker’s latest Netflix movie called “Hustle” began production in Philly back in October 2020 and wrapped later that year. While the movie is now officially in post-production, many Philadelphians have seen Sandler and his Happy Madison film crew in the city as recently as this past weekend.
Hustle, what’s it about?
Sandler plays Stanley Beren, an ousted NBA scout from South Philly who has seen better days. While oversees, Beren comes across a once-in-a-lifetime talent who quickly becomes his lottery ticket back into the NBA. In addition to Sandler, the movie features international basketball star Juancho Hernangomez who stars as Bo Cruz, Oscar nominee Queen Latifah and Oscar winner Robert Duvall.
Sandler sightings?
According to Pat Ralph from PhillyVoice.com, “Sandler and the “Hustle” production crew have been in the Delaware Valley a few times over the past year, filming at locations in Philly’s Italian Market and Center City, as well as in surrounding areas including Chester, Coatesville and Camden. The movie’s casting team held tryouts this summer at the 76ers Fieldhouse in Wilmington to find extras for basketball scenes.”
People have also spotted Sandler at Israeli restaurant Zahav in Old City and DiPinto Guitars located on Girard Avenue.
Cameos from the Philadelphia 76ers
Coach Doc Rivers and players Tobias Harris, Matisse Thybulle, Seth Curry and Tyrese Maxey are all expected to make cameos in Hustle. Just last week, the five where seen with Happy Madison’s film crew in a South Philly playground.
Hustle on Netflix
“Hustle” doesn’t have an official Netflix release date yet, but it’ll likely debut on the streaming platform sometime before the end of the year. Hopefully the movie will be more like Uncut Gems and less like Hubie Halloween.
