Peanut butter and jelly. Spaghetti and meatballs. Mac and cheese. These things belong together, but mustard on a Philly cheesesteak? Say it ain’t so!
Sixers foward Tobias Harris has openly admitted to putting mustard on his cheesesteak. Sounds gross, right? Well he’s not alone. According to various sandwich shops around Philly, an increasing number of customers are asking for the yellow condiment on their steaks. But why ruin a good thing?
I’ve heard of mayo, I’ve even heard of green peppers (although frowned upon), but mustard on a Philly cheesesteak? Come on Tobi! You’re better than that!
However… curiosity has gotten the best of me. So, I decided to try it for myself.
For my experiment, I added 3 different types of mustard to my cheesesteak: yellow, spicy brown and dijon. The mustard wasn’t awful, but it was definitely overpowering. A cheesesteak shouldn’t be tangy and, at the end of the day, mustard has no place on the Philly staple.
What do you guys think? Does mustard belong anywhere near a cheesesteak? Let me know below!
That’s an easy no for me.
