New Beer Alert: Philly Standard By Yards Brewing Co.

Entertainment, Reviews
UPDATE - I bought a 15-pack of Yards Brewing Co. newest beer, Philly Standard, over Labor Day Weekend. It tastes like a fancier version of Miller Lite. It has more flavor than a can of Miller Lite and a bit more alcohol by volume, but at the end of the day it's just another light beer that Yards does an exceedingly well job at marketing. It's refreshing and perfect for tailgating, but if you're a beer snob like me, you may feel a bit underwhelmed. Yards is still one of my favorite local breweries with a diverse lineup catering to all beer connoisseurs, but this connoisseur prefers their Philthy Hazy IPA. Drinkers choice. I like a nice strong Indian Pale…

Reich, Pederson and Wentz Walk Into An Indianapolis Bar…

Sports
SI.COM Frank Reich, Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz walk into an Indianapolis bar... sounds like a bad joke, right? Well, replace bar with football field and you have yourself a story. The three former Philadelphia Eagles were seen chatting it up at the Indianapolis Colts' training camp yesterday morning. Now they could have been talking about anything. Maybe they were talking about Carson and his wife set to have baby #2, Doug's vacation plans, the weather... but the Philly in me thinks they were taking jabs at Howie Roseman. Last year was... well, really bad ...And that's fine. We can all agree that last year's circus of a season could have been handled differently by the Eagles front office, but…

The Phillie Phanatic Gets A Makeover

The Phillie Phanatic Gets A Makeover

Sports
Usa Today Sports I haven't been to a baseball game in a while due to COVID, but the Phillie Phanatic looks... well, different. At first, the changes seem subtle, but after awhile the added flair is apparent. What have they done to our beloved mascot and when did the Phillie Phanatic get a makeover? Copyrights laws are a tricky thing In 1984, the Philadelphia Phillies paid $215,000 to Harrison and Erickson, the creators of the Phanatic, for what the organization thought were the perpetual rights to use and market the green fluffy mascot as they saw fit. Little did they know, there's a clause in the Copyright Act that basically protects creators of copyrighted work, allowing for the renegotiation or…

Health, News
Provided by NBC Sports If you're going to an Eagles game this month, bring a mask. Starting Thursday at 12 AM, Philly is once again requiring face masks to be worn indoors unless businesses require proof of vaccination. This is not surprising given the current state of the country. However, let's take a quick look at some of the data for our city. Source: https://usafacts.org/visualizations/coronavirus-covid-19-spread-map/state/pennsylvania/county/philadelphia-county New cases per day trending upwards Ok, looking at the past month, we can see that the number of new cases per day in Philly is rising. The city reported 276 cases today alone. However, the narrative changes quite a bit if we look at the 6-month chart. Joe Buck Is Hosting Jeopardy, And Yes Philly Still Hates Him

Entertainment
After a long day of working-from-home, I plop down on my couch to write a new blog post. The TV is on in the background and suddenly, I hear a familiar voice. Without looking up, I know right away that it’s Joe Buck. But it’s Monday and football season hasn’t started yet. Why is this man on my screen? A second later I hear a familiar buzzing noise. That’s right, Joe Buck is hosting Jeopardy this week. "Is that the same Joe Buck that everyone despises?"- My Wife With Joe Buck hosting Jeopardy, one of America’s most beloved game shows, it made me wonder… why does Philly hate this man so much? Even my wife, who doesn’t watch an ounce…
